Private Chef On The Île de Ré

A villa full of friends and nobody wants to cook?

I cycle the same lanes as everyone else - then cook the island's best produce in your villa kitchen

The best evenings on the Île de Ré happen in villa gardens, around a long table under the tamarisk trees. A private chef on the Île de Ré removes the one flaw in that plan: someone having to spend the golden hour stuck at the stove.

I arrive with everything, cook in your rental, serve the table and leave the kitchen cleaner than I found it. All that's left for you is the apéritif at sunset and a dinner that runs long.

Long banquet tables dressed with sunflowers in an orangerie

An island that feeds itself

Oysters from the Fosse de Loix, AOP island potatoes, fleur de sel raked from the salt pans, fish landed at La Flotte - few places in France pack this much good produce into thirty kilometres.

I know the island's producers and write menus around what's landed that day. In summer that means bright, simple plates for big villa tables; out of season, slower dishes that reward a day's cycling through the vines.

In peak season, almost all of my Île de Ré bookings come from villa groups - most often ten or more around the table for a week or longer.

Built for villa life

Menus that fit the rhythm of an island holiday.

Fresh prawn starter plated at home

The island platter

Oysters, prawns, whelks and langoustines shucked and stacked at your villa - the grand plateau without the graft.

Spit-roast chicken cooked outdoors

The garden dinner

Carefully done grills, market vegetables and homemade desserts served under the trees as the lights come on.

Charcuterie and cheese sharing boards

The long apéro

Boards, homemade tapas and small plates for evenings when nobody wants to sit down formally.

Village to village

I cook across the whole island: Rivedoux-Plage, Sainte-Marie, La Flotte, Saint-Martin, Le Bois-Plage, La Couarde, Loix, Ars, Saint-Clément and Les Portes. Island kitchens are famously compact - I'm well used to them.

One tip: book early for July and August. The best summer dates go as fast as the villas do.

The real Île de Ré luxury: coming back from the beach to the smell of dinner already underway.
from €30 per person

Prices start a little higher on the island to cover the bridge. Every booking is bespoke - tell me what you have in mind and I'll send you a price.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover every village on the island?

Yes, from Les Portes-en-Ré to Rivedoux. Travel is included in your quote - no surprises.

Our rental kitchen is tiny. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Rétais kitchens are famously compact and I plan menus around your equipment. A hob and a worktop are enough for a very good dinner.

Can you do a full seafood platter at the villa?

It's my most requested meal on the island: a complete plateau shucked on site, with rye bread, butter and homemade mayonnaise.

What does a private chef on the Île de Ré cost?

From €30 per person on the island, with the bridge included in the travel. Quotes are free and tailored to your group.

How early should we book in summer?

For July and August, ideally four to six weeks before your stay. Off season, a few days' notice is often enough.

Ars-en-Ré

Officially one of France's most beautiful villages, with its black-and-white bell tower and lanes lined with hollyhocks. The cycle route past the salt marshes is glorious.
